In 2040, said SunPower solar power to meet the U.S. demand for electricity
Group co-founder of SunPower, according to Richard Swanson said that if the current pace of promoting the use of solar photovoltaic (PV) cells, solar cells by 2040 to generate electricity that is able to meet the U.S. demand for electricity.
SunPower is currently president and chief technology officer, said Swanson, taking into account other renewable energy sources and new energy technologies are emerging at the same time, the 2050 solar cells provided by the growth in electricity consumption will be sufficient to reduce coal power generation as a result of the release of carbon dioxide. He pointed out that other renewable energy technologies such as wind and solar energy along with competition, batteries are growing rapidly.
"We think that we (solar technology) can and other renewable energy technologies drive together," Swanson on August 26 at the hot chips of the General Assembly (Hot Chips conference) said. Swanson does not believe that solar energy can not keep up the growth rate of electricity generated by coal power. By reference and SunPower jointly by the U.S. Air Force, Nellis Air Force Base to build 14 megawatt solar power plant joint venture example, laptop battery Swanson said PV industry has been able to build a nuclear power station and about the same power supply capacity of solar power plants. Nellis solar power plant to be completed in December 2007, said its annual capacity of up to 10,001,000 watts 3 - hours.
