I should buy new battery for my Asus laptop

Question:The charging light is always blinking, and always orange, never turn green, what does this mean? When the battery on Asus laptop is bad? the adapter came with the Compaq laptop orginally, but i can use on HP laptop too. these two laptops are almost the same.
